5 Genuinely Scary Movies to Watch this Halloween

As Halloween approaches, horror movies will be everywhere again in theatres. Skip the cinema and have your own thrill-fest at home. Bake up your pumpkin specialty recipe, set out some Halloween treats and invite friends over for a fun (and scary) movie night.

Saw (2004)

If you prefer blood and massacre in your horror film, Saw is certainly the movie for you. The movie follows Lawrence and Adam, an oncologist and a photographer respectively. They both wake up to find themselves shackled to pipes in a large bathroom, with one of them ordered to escape while the other to kill the other one or his family will die.

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Another must-watch horror film for the not-so-squeamish. The story focuses on a female loan officer who turns down a Romani old woman’s mortgage request only to face a dark curse that threatens to plunge her soul into hell for eternity. Expect a lot of gore, jump-out-of-your-seat scenes and surprising amount of laughs in the entirety of the film.

Insidious (2011)

‘Tiptoe Through the Tulips’ may sound like a sweet circus song, but not when it’s set to the scenes of Insidious. This supernatural horror film centers on a couple whose son falls into comatose state and becomes a ‘vessel’ for ghosts from an astral dimension, who want to inhibit the boy’s body, in order to live again.

Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)

The saga did not end with the first chapter. Two years later, the second chapter was released. The movie picks up after the couple’s son wakes up from comatose state and the family thinks that the paranormal trouble was over. The family soon realizes that the horrific activities aren’t yet over. Spirits are still present after moving to a relative’s house, and it’s only a matter of time before the paranormal activity becomes deadly for one of them.

Poltergeist (2015)

This 2015 film was a remake of the original movie released in 1982. The story focuses on a family with three children. The youngest daughter can strangely communicate with someone (or something) through a closet, and that’s when paranormal things start to unfold. After the child disappears inside that closet, the family seek help to rescue her from a poltergeist.

Are you scared yet? The Halloween season is the time for tricks and treats, and you’ll certainly experience both with these movies.
